If you are Homeless,
how to get Help & Shelter

To be allocated a bed at most shelters in San Francisco, including ECS's Sanctuary, you need to register with the city before being referred to a shelter. The McMillan Drop-In Center at 39 Fell Street is one place where you can register. It is open 365 days a year for 23 hours a day - only closed between 10am - 11am for cleaning.

The Sanctuary
201 8th Street, San Francisco

The Sanctuary is a client Focused Harm Reduction Modality. All participants continue to be referred to the Sanctuary by the citywide C.H.A.N.G.E.S referral and bed placement system with the exception of C.A.A.P. clients. All participants are encouraged by our Integrated Support Service Team to participate in our case management program. Presently, one hundred and thirty seven (137) reservations come from C.A.A.P. workers, fifty-eight (58) from the city's seven Resource Centers and five (5) from the Homeless Outreach Team.

Next Door
1001 Polk Street, San Francisco

The Next Door shelter provides stays for up to 6 months for homeless adults who have agreed to case management support designed to help them find and keep housing. Next Door is not part of the city registration system. Anyone who wants to stay at Next Door needs to go there in person to sign up. There is typically a waiting period, particularly for men, which can be several weeks depending on demand.
